Dry skin can be one of the most uncomfortable conditions you can encounter, in addition to being unsightly.  Although there are many pricy moisturizer creams on the market that you could buy, there are more than enough home remedies that moisturize the skin.  There is no need to go spending all that money on the best moisturizer cream, if you try some of these tips you can do right at home.  This article is going to look at some simple techniques for moisturizing the skin, which can be found right in your house.

Got Milk?  If you have a little milk in the fridge, go put some in a bowl and let it get closer to room temperature.  After this happens, apply the milk to your skin gently, with a soft towel or with some gauze.  As you apply the milk to your skin, you will get some of the nice benefits from milk.  These all-natural benefits include the anti-inflammatory properties of milk.  So, if your dry skin is very itchy, this milk application might be perfect for you.   Another benefit that milk provides your skin is that it contains lactic acid.  Lactic acid has been proven to be beneficial to the skin for both texture and moisture.

Grease yourself up.  Another great home remedy is to apply a heavy, greasy product to your skin.  If you have dry skin, applying a thin watery moisturizer is basically useless.   You need to be applying a heavy product that will seal in moisture.  One of the most inexpensive ones is Petroleum Jelly.  Yes, good old Vaseline.  If you find it too messy, you should just apply it at night.  Also, another tip is to warm it up in your hands by rubbing them together.  This will make it less firm, and easier to apply to the skin.  The point of this treatment is to seal in the moisture that's on your skin, so this should be done after a bath, while the skin is still wet.

Cover the skin after applications of moisturizer product to maximize the effect.  When you go to bed, put gloves on your hands, if they are extremely dry and cracked.  The same holds true for putting socks on your feet before you go to bed, if you have heels that are cracked and extremely dry.  You basically want to apply your moisturizer product, and then put the socks or gloves on right afterward.   Also, if you suffer from dry elbows, wear a long sleeve pajama to accomplish the same task.

The time that you apply your moisturizer is almost as important as what product you apply to your skin.  The best time to apply the best moisturizer is while the skin is wet.  This means that after you bathe and gently towel off is perfect.  While there are still beads of moisture on your skin, gently wipe on the product you choose to use.  It can either be an affordable moisturizer cream, or a greasy product from home like petroleum jelly or even Crisco.  You apply these "greasy" types of products while the skin is wet, and basically seal in the moisture.   The key is that you have to do it while the skin is still wet.

The tips we just discussed in this article will help keep your skin as moist as possible, and might even cure your chronic dry skin.  Remember that rushing out to the store and getting the best moisturizer money can buy is not necessarily the ultimate solution for your skin.  Follow the tips here, and you will surely find your skin healthier and with a lot more moisture.
