The Importance Of Hard Work

You may have heard the expression "opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls, and it looks like work." No statement could be truer. Many people hope to make it rich or to reach their goals by taking an easy path, and as soon as the path gets a little bumpy they give up and begin to seek a new path, or new goals. This obviously never allows them to reach any of their goals, as nothing comes easy. It is important to work hard if you wish you achieve your goals in life, and I guarantee you with will not come easy. But if you commit yourself to working harder than everyone else you can achieve whatever you wish in life.
There is no substitute for hard work. If you have professional goals and income goals that you wish to reach either to provide for your family or to buy the next toy on your list, take this little test with me. When you are at work, do you more often than not look down at your watch to find that it is already 30 minutes past quitting time and decide that you better come in early tomorrow or stay late today to finish what needs to be done? Or do you find yourself telling yourself not to look at your watch for two hours, staying busy, accomplishing your tasks; finally looking down to realize that despite your best efforts only 37 minutes has past? The difference you may say is enjoying what you do. Or maybe it's simply the level of effort that you have put into your job, or career. If you have a goal, and are actually serious about wanting to achieve it there is no substitute for working hard.
For most people who wish to advance in their chosen field, they ultimately are competing with another employee to get that next promotion. And when you think of things as a competition, that means there is a winner and a loser and in order to win you must out work the competition. For example if you are in sales you must make more sales calls than the competition. You must put in more hours. You may be a better sales person, but anyone can out work you and make up the conversion ratio advantage that you have by being talented. When you combine your talents with a good work ethic there is nothing that can defeat you.
In my experience as a wrinkle cream consultant, there is not so much direct competition as you may find in a high pressure sales environment, but there is still competition. To be the best or most knowledgeable in the wrinkle cream industry, it takes long hours, a lot of research and being willing to take on independent studies of anti aging products in my free time. I must know more than my competitor, I must be more versed in the best anti aging product and how they affect certain skin types. I must publish more articles, more studies, be involved in more wrinkle cream research projects than anyone else. Otherwise my opinion loses its validity and I am no longer a respected consultant. If you do not differentiate yourself with hard work and product knowledge you are just another name in the pack, nothing to be celebrated and nothing work promoting. The wrinkle cream industry is very competitive and each manufacturer is looking for the best new formula to leave their competition behind. They look to people like me to consult them about the best anti aging ingredients, or which products are currently the best wrinkle creams. Without hard work and constant study I am useless to them and therefore unable to reach my goals. But by keeping my nose to the grindstone and staying the course I am able to out hustle each of my competitors and therefore provide a valuable service to the wrinkle cream manufacturers that hire me.
Whatever your chosen field of business is, you must work hard to get ahead. Just like an athlete who spends years practicing their craft, your job is your craft and it must be practiced and cultivated. If you wish to reach your goals, you must sacrifice certain aspects of your life to achieve your goals. For most, this sacrifice comes in the form of time and effort, and that hard work will be rewarded.
