At last! You've read all the eye gel reviews and looked through all the shelves of eye creams at the drugstore before finally picking one. Now you're ready to apply. But before you dive in, first read up on some tips on how to apply eye gels and creams.

Start by washing your face and hands. You want to be especially careful when touching the skin around your eyes. If the eye gel or cream is in a jar, you want to have clean hands to avoid spreading bacteria or germs into the product. If the product is in a tube, try to avoid touching the opening.

Many people think they should apply tons of eye gels or creams, as if you can eradicate eye wrinkles or dark circles under the eye by using lots of eye care products. Not only is this a waste of what was probably an expensive product, but it is also highly ineffective. The pores around the eyes are very small, very tiny. While you may be able to see pores on other parts of your face by the naked eye, you would have to look under high power magnification to see the pores near your eyes. So really only the thinnest layer of eye product would be able to be absorbed into the skin around your eyes.

Put a small drop of the eye gel or cream onto your finger. Does which finger you use matter? Some people think you should use your pinky or ring finger rather than your index finger, the reason being you want to use the least amount of pressure when patting the delicate skin around your eyes. Using a dabbing motion, dot the eye gel or cream around the circumference of your eye, following the natural curve of the bone. Do not rub the eye gel or cream into your skin or you may cause more eye wrinkles! Let it absorb into the eye skin naturally.

That's about it. If, by some chance, you get the eye gel or cream into your eyes, rinse it out immediately with water. The eye product was meant to go around your eye, not inside your eye.
